The usually quiet town of Tsafe, headquarters of Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, recently erupted in hilarious jubilation at the sight of the National Universities Commission (NUC) convoy conveying personnel on a normal Resource Verification Exercise to the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology.

The pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Prof Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai mni, who led other Principal Officers to conduct the NUC personnel round the take-off site at former Zamfara State  College of Health Technology, pointed out that government had decided to establish the specialised institution not only to bridge the medical needs gap but also to cater for the technical aspects of medical sciences such as equipments used in laboratories  and operating theatres.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Zamfara State Government for graciously ceding the premises of the State College of Health Technology and the secondary school to serve as the take-off site of the University, as well as the encouragement and personal commitment of the State Executive Governor, His Excellency, Dr Dauda Lawal and other stakeholders.

Prof Yakasai also praised the traditional ruler of Tsafe (Sarkin Tsafe), Alhaji Muhammadu Bawa

for the unequalled support, the people accorded the management and staff of the university.

At the Palace,  during the courtesy visit and homage, the traditional ruler said his people were overjoyed with the establishment of the university, especially its siting at Tsafe. He  expressed his gratitude to the government for providing more avenues for employment and higher education for his people.

Prof Ibrahim Yakasai mni, is a renowned Gynaecologist and Obstetrician who has held various high-ranking positions in the medical field. Apart from being the Provost, College of Medicine, Bayero University Kano, he was also a pioneer Board Member of the first ever Federal Government established University of Health Sciences (FUHSO) in Otukpo, Benue State. He has, no doubt, brought his wealth of experience in University administration, massive social and international connections across board, as well as the goodwill of the State administration, to bear in laying a solid foundation for the take-off of the new university in Tsafe. As was evident during the NUC Resource Verification  exercise of the eighteen (18) programmes, a School of Preliminary Studies is already in place, while many take-off Professors and other support staff have been recruited.

The Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, is among the six new universities established by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2025 to further train medical Doctors and other health related personnel, one in each geopolitical zone.
